Haunted by the Sound of the Wind
This is an example of expertise working how it’s supposed to, but in mysterious ways (this is maybe also how it’s supposed to).
The visual idea for the title card sprung into my head fully formed (in a couple of variations), in what I thought was a pretty direct memory reference to some piano* sheet music we always had out at my house growing up. But then, after I found the original for confirmation, it looked nothing like that (aside from blue and cream). Misremembering is a magical thing in an era of accuracy, or supposed accuracy. The machines hallucinate and so do I! Only when I do it, it’s cool. Anyway, that’s what I keep telling myself...
Since then I’ve found a bunch of things that maybe had a part in it (one is a parking garage…(?)), but it’s kinda beside the point, because when I sent a sketch to (director, longtime collaborator) Xavier (Tera), he said, “that’s it!”
Titles we set as color to reinforce that black and white was a deliberate choice.
Bilingual credits are tough, and I hope you can indulge me thinking that these are some of the best I’ve ever seen.
